About Plainview

Everything on the market, costed the same way, so you can compare it.

Plainview is a reference tool for people buying land in Canterbury and building on it. We watch every section and subdivision that comes up for sale, pair each one with the house plans that fit it, and cost the finished home end to end — so an evening at the kitchen table can do the work of three weekends and a run of builders’ meetings. When you find something worth pursuing, we point you at the agent and the builder to talk to.

How it works

  1. What is actually on the market

We watch what is for sale across Canterbury and look at the quality of the sections on the market — a single titled section, a stage of a subdivision, the lot nobody has advertised well. What we judge worth building on is here. Nothing appears because someone paid to put it here, and nothing is held back to be shown to you later.

  2. The whole cost, end to end

The section price is never what the house costs. We pair each section with the plans that fit it and cost the rest — site works, landscaping, contingency — and show every part on its own line. That is the point: you can see in seconds whether a place is inside your budget, instead of spending three weekends and a builder's meeting to find out it never was. It is an indicative estimate, not a quote, and we show you what it is built from.

  3. Impartial — we do not sell the sections

We do not own the land, we do not list it and we earn nothing on the sale of it. That is why the costings can be blunt: there is no section here we need you to buy. Every package carries a link straight to the original advertisement and to the builder's own page for the plan, so you deal with them directly. Plainview is where you compare; the deal is theirs.

The important bit

What this site is not.

  1. We are not an agency and we are not the vendor. Sections and subdivisions are listed and sold by their own agents — use the original listing link on any package to deal with them directly.
  2. Package pricing is an indicative estimate, not a quote, a fixed-price contract or an offer. Availability is refreshed from the source listings and can change in between.
  3. We are not a consent authority. What can actually be built on a section is decided by the district plan and the council, and final pricing is confirmed by the builder — not here.
  4. We do not sell land on its own. Every listing on Plainview is land with a house costed onto it.

The long version of all of that, including what we do with your details, is on the terms, disclosures and privacy page.
